Apple Cider Vinegar for treating diabetes is an interesting subject. Diabetes is becoming more and more common, and there may be various reasons for this phenomena, but it must be remembered that it is not only extremely serious, but needs proper medical care, and a strict adherence to dietary rules and medication, as prescribed by your doctor.

It is however interesting to note that added dietary fiber, such as contained in apple cider vinegar, is beneficial in controlling blood glucose levels.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Diabetes can help control blood sugar levels but must be used alongside your prescribed medications

Lipitor is a common drug given to lower cholesterol levels. However, some people find the side effects too unpleasant-aching joints and muscle aches to name a few.

A good friend of mine found herself on Lipitor and seemed to have every side effect known! After discussing it with her Doctor she came off the Lipitor and started taking cider vinegar tablets. Her Doctor had seen fantastic results in the past. She combined this with regular exercise and low and behold!! Her next blood test showed that her cholesterol had dropped to normal levels.

As always, please discuss any changes of your medications with your Doctor first.

It may not work for everyone but in my friends case the battle of Lipitor Apple Cider, the natural remedy worked.

Apple cider vinegar is a very effective treatment for arthritis. Acid crystals are found everywhere in the body but when they form in the joints the joint becomes stiff and painful, prematurely aged if you like.

One or two teaspoons of cider vinegar, a dash of honey, dissolved in a glass of warm water and taken twice a day will help your body break down the crystals that have formed in the joints. While this is not a cure for arthritis it will make living with the condition much easier. The joints will feel younger and more like a well oiled joint should.

Apple cider vinegar can also be used as a local treatment for painful swollen joints. Make a solution of one part cider vinegar to six parts warm water. A painful hand or foot can be soaked in this solution for ten minutes three times a day. You can also soak a flannel in the warm solution and apply it to painful knees, elbows or which ever joint is causing you problems. Again, this should be done three times daily.

As I said before, Apple cider vinegar will cure the pain of arthritis, not cure the arthritis itself.

You should try it-what have you got to loose? Stiff painful joints of course!!

Having suffered from breast cancer I am careful about what I eat and what I put on my skin. I no longer use chemical deodorants which contain large amounts of aluminum but instead use a deodorant made from Apple cider vinegar.

Its easy to make and cheaper than over the counter deodorants. I perfume the deodorant with lavender oil but any perfumed oil can be used.

1 part water
1 part cider vinegar
a few drops of lavender oil

Simply mix together and put in a spray bottle. When applied to the skin the vinegar smell will evaporate within a few minutes and you will remain fresh and dry all day long with your homemade Apple cider vinegar deodorant.

Apple cider vinegar for treatment of acne is affective and much cheaper than over the counter remedies. It works by killing off the bacteria that lives on the surface of the skin that causes acne. It also balance the skin's PH and can absorb excess oil on the skins surface.

To make the cider vinegar mixture dilute it with water-eight parts water to one part vinegar. Make sure the skin is clean and dry and apply the cider vinegar mixture with a cotton wool ball. Allow to dry on the skin and that's all there is to it! Done morning and evening you should see a marked improvement within a few days.

Apple cider vinegar as a treatment for acne is cheap and quick. It can also be used in a stronger form to treat individual spots. Simply mix three parts water to one part vinegar and apply to the spot twice a day. This clears the infection and drys the spot.

Mix half a cup of cider vinegar in a pint of warm water. After shampooing hair, rinse thoroughly with the cider vinegar mixture. massage into scalp then leave on hair for a few minutes. Rinse with cool water and see how gorgeous your hair looks!

As a foot note I also use cider vinegar as a treatment for dandruff for my dog!!

It is commonly believed that heartburn is caused by excessive acid in the stomach. It actually occurs when there is not enough of the right acid to digest food correctly.

The acid in question is Hydrochloric acid and when there is not enough to digest food properly the food starts to break down and produce organic acids which cause heartburn. This is the start of a cycle. Most people at this stage will take an over the counter antacid which neutralise the acid and HEY they feel better. Only for a while though. The action of the antacid leaves the stomach alkaline and more hydrochloric acid is then produced to finish the digestion process. Hope this is all making sense!

Anyway and now to the point of this tale. Cider vinegar is rich in an acid called Malic Acid, which increases the acidity of the stomach therefore aiding digestion.

The favourite way of taking Apple Cider vinegar for heartburn in our house is in this tasty Apple Cider Vinegar Cocktail first used by the health pioneer Paul Bragg. Here is his recipe.

1 heaped teaspoon of honey
2 teaspoons of Apple cider vinegar
glass of warm water

Simply mix the ingredients together and drink.

While excellent Apple cider vinegar is widely available there is something very satisfying about making your very own homemade cider vinegar.

This is the recipe I use . Before you start you must take these two factors into consideration. Firstly, temperature. The fermenting vinegar must be kept between 60 and 80 degrees ( f). If the temperature is lower then the vinegar will be of much poorer quality and if the temperature is higher it interferes with the formation of ' mother of vinegar' which is the base that forms on fermenting wine that has gone bad.
Secondly, oxygen. This is necessary and is spread thro' the mixture by stirring daily and the use of a porous lid, such as cheesecloth, to allow the circulation of air.
Do not use a metal container when making or storing vinegar as the vinegar will corrode the metal.

There are four main steps in making cider vinegar.

1. Making Cider

Cider is made from autumn apples as these have the highest quantity of sugar. Crush the apples to produce a pulp the n strain this thro' a cheesecloth to produce a nice clear liquid. Adding yeast is not essential but will speed up the process of fermentation. These can be bought in chemists or wine making shops. Please note that bread yeasts should not be used. Quantities and instructions will come with the yeast.

2. Making the alcohol and acetic acid

Pour the cider into a container but only fill to three quarter capacity. place a porous lid on and stir daily. Fermentation will take up to three or four weeks and you will smell a strong vinegar smell when it is complete.

3. Filtering

This can be done through any type of filter but I tend to use coffee filters as they are cheap and disposable. This removes the mother of vinegar preventing any further fermentation.

4. Storing your vinegar.

Your vinegar is now ready to be stored in a capped container. It can be stored for many months if pasteurised. To do this heat the vinegar and then pour into sterilized bottles or jars. The temperature of the vinegar should reach about 140 (F) and you can use a cooking thermometer to check this-carefully of course!!

Warts affect most of us from time to time and can be devilishly difficult to get rid of. Try this old cure for them.

Before bedtime soak a small piece of cotton wool in neat cider vinegar then lay directly on wart. Secure with a band aid and leave in place overnight. Repeat this process every night until the wart turns black then disappears-usually in about a week. This Cider vinegar treatment can also be used for verrucas.

For corns and calluses simply soak your feet in a basin of warm water with two dessertspoons of Epsom salts added to it. Dry feet then soak a small piece cotton wool in neat cider vinegar and apply to affected area. Leave for thirty minutes then wash feet and rub briskly with a towel. The result is beautiful soft feet!

There are many causes of high blood pressure- being overweight, high salt intake, high alcohol intake, lack of exercise, the list goes on and on. If you have high blood pressure you should be under the care of your doctor who will have prescribed medication to lower your blood pressure and any life style changes that are necessary. These should always be addhered to and the taking of Cider vinegar to lower your blood pressure be looked on as an additional help for your poor overworked body!

Cider vinegar contains potassium which is a mineral required for healthy heart muscle and therefore good heart function. Potassium also lowers the level of acids within the body which have a diluting effect on the blood which in turn helps lower the blood pressure.

A glass of water with two teaspoons of cider vinegar three times a day will be your contribution in your fight to lower your blood pressure. Go on, you've nothing to loose!

As a mum to a large brood of children I've treated a few sore throats over the years. Sore throats are the result of either a viral or bacterial infection. Antibiotics are a necessary part of treatment if the throat infection is bacterial and troublesome. However if the throat infection is viral then antibiotic treatment is not indicated.

In either of these situations I have always reached for Cider vinegar. For adults and older children the treatment is to gargle four times a day with two tablespoons of cider vinegar in a glass of warm water. This can be sweetened with a spoonful of honey which will also sooth the throat.

In younger children who can't gargle effectively I soak a flannel in the above mixture ( leaving out the honey of course!) and place it gently around the throat. This soothes the throat and draws out any toxins. This should be done four to six times a day.

My older daughter who is now a young woman still uses the flannel when she has a sore throat- she likes the feeling of warmth and comfort!!

Can Apple Cider Vinegar Help Acne?

Acne is often a reflection of a lack of acid balance in the skin. A change in the natural pH of the skin can allow bacteria to flourish and this often shows itself in the form of pimples, spots or boils. Apple Cider Vinegar has been used as a natural acne treatment for generations.

Vinegar can be extremely helpful for mild to moderate cases of acne. The vinegar's antiseptic properties helps to counteract the acne related bacteria. The acidic properties of cider vinegar will also help balance your skin's pH, and absorb extra oil on your skin.

How to use Cider Vinegar for Acne Treatment

  • Start with clean and dry skin
  • apply diluted vinegar (eight parts water to one part vinegar) directly to your skin with a cotton ball and leave it on for several hours at least but rinse off if you feel it irritant
  • if your skin tolerates it then you can also use a stronger vinegar solution (say, 2 or 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar), and apply it directly to problem areas - but make sure you rinse it off after ten minutes.
  • Some people use lemon or lime juice instead of cider vinegar. Both of these juices are rich in citric acid, and can exfoliate your skin very well, halting the growth of acne spots, as well as fading previous, non-active acne quicker.

The so called Cider Vinegar Diet has provoked controversy and acceptance in almost equal measure over the years.

Apple cider vinegar has a combination of acidic vinegar and fruit pectin and this combination is said to be the reason behind the cider vinegar diet and its "fat burning effects".

Using the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet
To gain benefit from the cider vinegar diet you are supposed to take one, two, or three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar before each meal. Many people find it difficult to get three teaspoons down initially but most get used to it after a few days. Taking more than three spoonfuls is likely to provoke stomach discomfort and is not likely to give you any more benefit.

Does the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet Work?
This is where the controversy comes in!
Like many other diets, it's not clear as to whether there are any properties in the vinegar that will actually help you lose weight. Is it the fact that you eat smaller portions than before or is it directly related weight loss due to the cider vinegar?
The dieticians and traditionalists take the former view - the alternative therapists and cider vinegar adherents see it the other way round?

My advice to you would be to try it for yourself and see if it works.
